These Abled People is Bizlink’s very own brand of gifts and cards that are specially designed and crafted by people with disabilities (PWDs) in Bizlink.
The opportunity to partner with Toy Outpost has given Bizlink’s social enterprise a new sales channel as well as a marketing front. Proceeds from sales go to support deserving beneficiaries who work in Bizlink’s sheltered workshop.
Thanks also to the many helping hands namely from NUS Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy , Golden Village and AS Louken who have made this launch possible.
The launch was also reported in Channelnewsasia - Singapore Today on 1 Dec 2009.
The writeup and video is also available on Channelnewsasia website.
SINGAPORE: If you are shopping for Christmas gifts, why not get something that would create a job for the disabled?
These handicrafts and greeting cards were meticulously hand-made by disabled individuals.
And the drawing of these curtains signify the first time Bizlink, a non-profit organisation that employs people with disabilities, is venturing into the local retail scene.
It is collaborating with Toy Outpost to have their products sold on shelves.
Before this initiative, sales of their greetings cards were dropping with the advent of e-cards, or online greeting cards.
Bizlink reported a 50 per cent decrease in their sales.
Mr Alvin Lim, CEO of Bizlink, said: "Of course, this will actually affect the amount of work that's actually being created for our people. So in overcoming that itself, Bizlink has to constantly strive for new ways to cater to market demands.
"In this case, we have moved on to also producing e-cards, and also more creative ways of getting our products, our wares, to the market." - CNA/de
